So it’s been awhile since I’ve written anything - life has been pretty busy and I’ve been thinking about what to share next. I am part of Bath City Church and they have started something called ‘The Fire Pit’ which involves three people from the community sharing their own message that God has put on their hearts. I was honoured to be part of this a few weeks ago and shared a message that God has been developing in me this year.
I looked at Isaiah 61:1-4 and how I had experienced the exchange laid out in those verses in my life over the past year dealing with the break up of my engagement. God revealed what the exchanges meant and how he had worked these out in my situation. So I thought instead of writing it all down for you that you could have something different and watch me say it instead.
I encourage you to listen to the other two speakers too. Funnily enough, all of our messages connected. I pray that God speaks to you and encourages you in whatever circumstances or situation you find yourself in.
I loved sitting down with Chloe Tissiman and listening to some of her poems. It's my privilege to share this poem with you today.
"Well I write all my poems when I need to figure out my own feelings or experiences so 'I'm In Love' was written over the course of nearly a year. A year where I was up and down a lot with my mental health and I needed a way to vent it out - and then it was just a case of changing some wording and arranging it.
I realised as I was doing that that I didn't want it to just be about me, everyone has experienced directly or indirectly mental health and it's something not many of us talk about, especially in church because we think we should have our lives together.
So I tried to word it in a way that people could relate to it, male or female, any age, any culture, and used my own experiences in that to then bring the truth that's been brought to me to others. I'm still trying to drill that truth into myself, so it's an ongoing process. Writing 'I'm In Love' was just the beginning of that process." - Chloe Tissiman
'In the season of this song, God taught me about the journey of rising up out of empty decisions. I'm learning that this transition is a bit like falling and getting back up again. Know you're free and be defined by that knowledge, rather than the empty decisions that make up your past failures.
I do not have this down just yet, but I always go back to this song to remind me when I'm down.' - Emma Hatfield
